What is VR / AR / MR ? Xplained !

WHAT IS VR? AR? MR?

Virtual Reality , Augmented Reality , Mixed reality but nothing is real. Still they call it a reality....!

Let's get started !

To understand this first , Lets assume a situation ... 

Situation:

Magician takes a rabbit places inside the Magic Hat and we are the audience enjoying the show.... End of Story !

What happens in Conventional (Normal) Reality?

We are the audience we see the situation as it is.. No changes.. We see whats happening in the stage. 

What happens in Virtual Reality ?

The Magician gives you a cardboard box and you cant see outside the box when you wear them. What you see now is the view of rabbit's perspective. You feel like you are inside the hat but in the reality you are in the seat. Whatever you see is a fake environment which is simulated to create a illusion that you are in that environment.

So Google Cardboard /Oculus Rift uses the same science. What you see is your mobile or  a display inside a cardboard box.So that you feel and live in some Virtual Space. This experience is quite drippy coz your Brain gets confused some times between reality and virtual reality. That's why many card board users get nausea some times.

The price of cardboard ranges from Rs.150-30000. You can choose from based on your preferences. If you just wanna a give it a try you may go for low priced but don't expect a long life. If you are seriously into VR go for a higher priced one which gives you a immersive experience. I would provide the links of some quality VR card-boards and VR content apps in case you want to give it a try.

NOTE: Mobiles with Gyroscope sensor is only compatible with VR. You can check your compatibility by searching for Google Cardboard App if your device is compatible you can install the app. If you are on App Store follow the same in App Store.

What happens in Augmented Reality ?

The same magician asks you take out your mobile and open a special camera app and what you see through an app. A hungry fox behind magician ! A beautiful Girl who is not on stage! or even Harley Quin! That scenario based on what that app can do. The camera app combines with the software to augment(modify) the reality . So this is Augmented Reality. Best example out there for Augmented Reality is Pokemon GO . The game augments the reality so that you see a Abra in your Bathroom ! No special hardware is required. A mobile with camera is ok do the trick . AR depends on the software.

What happens in Mixed Reality ?

Well .. You get a Hologram wand made of light and you are going to do the magic . Yes welcome to Tony Stark's Lab. This idea is still in developer stage. Soon to be launched commercially and guess who's the Big Boy behind this , Its Microsoft.

Microsoft HOLO lens is the next big step. Mixed Reality is much better and more immersive than the other two reality. Because it gives a proper proportion of both the Real world and Virtual World. Another US based startup called Magic Leap is also working on this technology . They still haven't revealed their device nor their technology.
