Portronics Sound Pot In- Depth !

The Sound-pot is a Bluetooth speaker with inbuilt call function from the brand Portronics. I have been using this speaker for about one and half month .The review consists of the following sections

DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY

       DESIGN
                   The sound pot is designed with the Idea to keep it small,ergonomic and easy for travel. They have achieved i would say. The curved design cylindrical body  fits perfectly in the palm and feels good to hold. The speaker grills are placed perfectly facing us instead of looking top like conventional speakers. This definitely increases our listening experience . There is a Mic in bottom front to make phone calls and ON-OFF toggle switch at the bottom.Behind the cylindrical body the AUX port and micro-USB port for charging the device A LED indicator is present . This arrangement is made so that it gives a Minimalist Feel.

       BUILD QUALITY

                            The Matt finish Build makes the speaker look premium but also easily prone to smudges. Though they can be wiped out easily using a cloth. Never dropped till date because if its firm grip so not sure what happens when it falls down. Hmmm... well i would update if it does ! ! 
Its  light and weighs around 160g which makes the device a real Portable device.

   OUTPUT QUALITY

        When you power on the device and play a song , you could get goosebumps. Definitely not exaggerating. I was really surprised to expect this from Portronics not a well known Brand in India but managed to make a Unique device . At higher volume the audio do not get clutter and keeps up without distortion. But some times at higher Bass the speaker shakes at loud volume and vibrates due to its light weight. This sometimes disturbs our experience. We can avoid vibrations by reducing or modifying the bass in our equalizer. 

   BLUETOOTH MODE

                             In the website the Bluetooth connectivity is mentioned up to 30 feet but its not more than 10 feet. You can place it any where in the room and the mobile or device must be in visibility range. Covering the mobile or covering the speaker with hands affect the playback. Longer the distance higher the Battery is consumed. Audio clarity is high in Bluetooth mode. Bass and treble are balanced which gives a good to listen feel.

   AUX MODE
                    This is the part were portronics slipped slightly . The reason is that when connected via the input of AUX the volume comparatively is reduced. Its not as high as Bluetooth Audio. Tried with different AUX cable the output remains the same. AUX CABLE AND DATA CABLE is provided by the manufacture its pretty much small in length but serves the purpose.

PERFORMANCE ( ADVANCED )

 CALL QUALITY

                                This speaker has the ability to make calls and receive calls . The inbuilt mic at the front bottom of the speaker has difficulty in receiving our voice when placed on table so to be audible we must hold the speaker in our hands and use it which pretty much does not do well. The call reception is great and the voice is crystal clear from the speaker. I hardly use this feature. If you use this speaker for call purposes then its in the downside. 

  PLAYBACK TIME 

                                 The portronics though didnt mention the batter power but its easily gets up to 8-10 hrs of music play back depending upon the volume and distance if connected via Bluetooth. The device uses Bluetooth version (4.1) so power consumption is pretty decent. I use this in my room and use Bluetooth for listening songs for about 30-40 mins daily . I get about 10-12 days of play back (i.e) approx 8 hrs which is not bad at all.

CHARGING TIME

                                The device do not have any indication for Low battery or Zero charge that's one issue portronics didnt concentrate. We must assume that if the device is not playing there is no charge..lol.. pretty old school ! OOPS.. My Bad..Actually There is a siri like voice indication present when the battery is low .Anyways the charging device from empty to 100% takes around 60-80 mins. Hopefully the LED blinks while charging , indicating that the mobile is charging and blinking stops if the Battery is full.

VOICE ASSIST 

                 Its surprising that Portronics have included this feature . Don't expect a GOOGLE Now or  SIRI. It assists with the voice comes when you Power ON/OFF the device, while switching from Bluetooth mode to AUX and vice versa, during incoming call and when the call is ended.

PROS AND CONS

                    

PROS

• A Powerful 3-w speaker
• Compact and Ergonomic design
• Value For Money
• Bluetooth 4.1

CONS

• No support for USB
• No buttons for calling and volume control
• No in-built FM

FINAL VERDICT            

There are drawbacks in this device like no USB port or any buttons for answering the calls.   No volume controls are present. No FM. But these drawbacks are intentionally  done for making the ergonomic design and cut down the price of this product. It depends on your needs. If you need those options you may opt for another . If you are an audiophile and your need is listening to music alone and you are low on budget then this is definitely the product .
